Race weekend summary – NMRA Ford Nationals- Milan, MI

urist milan Race weekend summary – NMRA Ford Nationals Milan, MI
With record heat and a few rain delays, Milan proved to be quite a challenge for even the most seasoned racers. This race was particularly important for us to win because it would give us a good lead in points heading into Columbus, Ohio. With stiff competition this year, every round counts immensely. Thankfully, this was our 6th year racing in Milan, Michigan and with all our old data, we were able to use our experiences here to our advantage.
Friday saw a few rounds of test and tune with two rounds of qualifying before Mother Nature stepped in and ended our night early due to rain. We were lucky enough to be prepared for the track conditions we encountered and qualified #1 with a 7.21. But the rest of the field wasn’t too far behind with the #2 qualifier running a 7.26

Saturday was a busy and hectic day, especially because this race was expected to be a two-day race. With the impending rain on its way, 3rd round qualifying was up in the air, and was finally ran at noon. No one ran better, which only solidified our #1 spot. We were paired up first round with Phil Hines and ran a 7.21 to hand us our first round win. Unfortunately that was all of the racing we got to do on Saturday because the rain moved in and didn’t slow down for hours, cutting our day very short. After much debate about the finals and where the race should be finished, it was agreed upon that the racers would stay for Sunday and finish up the race with the knowledge that a local race will also be happening at the same time.

Second round we ran against Kenjo Kelly and when the tree dropped, we dusted off a 7.28 giving us the win! But it would be a repeat of the final in Joliet, IL as we found ourselves paired against John Kolivas. This time, however, the roles would be reversed as we found ourselves on the winning side of the light with a 7.34 for the win!

With this race win under our belt,  we are in a great position!! We have the month of August off for our wedding with no racing until September in Columbus, Ohio but that doesn’t mean we’ll be resting! Continuing our hard work on the car will give us the best chance at the championship!

Inaugural NMRA/NMCA West Coast Shootout Brings Record Crowd

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

For the first time the NMRA and NMCA took over Auto Club Dragway with the West Coast Shootout, the largest muscle car event of the year at their facility.  The West Coast Shootout brought many of the stars from the west coast drag racing scene and showcased what the NMRA Keystone Automotive Ford Nationals and the NMCA Flowmaster Muscle Car Nationals has to offer.  This event featured a special Racers Against Street Racing True Street Challenge class where street-type racers were able to compete with media and manufacturers for over $10,000 is cash and prizes.

West Coast Muscle Car Drag Racing:
The Inaugural JE Pistons NMRA/NMCA West Coast Shootout, Presented by Lucas Oil, brought exciting drag race action for the southern California-area fans.  Mickey Thompson sponsored the awesome Xtreme Drag Radial and Wild Street classes which showed cool wheels up action.  Centerforce sponsored the naturally aspirated class and Ford Racing sponsored the popular Mustang Madness category.

TREMEC True Street was extra special this event with a special Racers Against Street Racing promotion designed to take racing off the streets and put it on the track…where it belongs!  Over 20 magazines and website administrators (including Hot Rod, Car Craft, Muscle Mustangs, 5.0 Mustang, Camaro5.com, and more) raced with street-type racers for a good time and a good cause.  The quickest 16 cars from Saturday’s True Street class were invited to race heads-up on Sunday in the Nitto Tire Lone Star Shootout class!

TREMEC & UPR Products All-Domestic Car Show:
California is truly a motorsports state and nowhere was it more evident than in the combined TREMEC NMCA Car Show and the UPR Products NMRA Car Show.  Over 100 of the best hot rods and muscle cars in the U.S. drove in the heat to show off for the fans. The car show area was a sea of chrome and vibrant colors with something for everyone.  The award ceremony was first class as the show participants enjoyed the shade of the NMRA/NMCA Awards Pavilion.

Manufacturers’ Midway and Swap Meet:
NMRA and NMCA events have a reputation for strong manufacturers’ midways where fans and racers can check out and purchase performance parts, accessories, collectibles, apparel and much more.  Combine NMRA and NMCA in California and you get over 40 vendors on hand including Flowmaster, JE Pistons, Lucas Oil, B&M, Edelbrock, Baer Brake Systems, Centerforce, Mickey Thompson, Vortech/Paxton, MSD Ignition, Maximum Motorsports, Ross Racing Pistons, Energy Suspension, Eibach Springs, EATON, Magnaflow Exhaust, SAM, Exedy Racing Clutch, Holley, ACT and many others with awesome displays and product showcases.

Autocross and Speed-Stop-Challenge:
For the first time ever the NMRA & NMCA hosted an Autocross and Speed-Stop-Challenge. The Hotchkis Sport Suspension Autocross showcased over 100 of the coolest muscle cars and hot rods racing through the cone course with most competitors getting over 15-20 total laps!  The Baer Brake Systems Speed-Stop-Challenge showcased the stopping ability of everything from a ‘55 Chevy to a new Ford GT!  A moment of silence was held each day in honor of Todd Gartshore, co-owner of Baer and a good friend, who passed away almost 2 weeks ago.

This post event report is being provided to all NMRA and NMCA series sponsors.  We appreciate your support and recognize that it significantly contributes to NMRA’s success as the #1 all-Ford motorsport show in the U.S. and the NMCA’s status as the #1 muscle car series.  Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions or need anything at all.

NMCA

1 The NMRA & NMCA are coming to the Auto Club Speedway! July 8 10

For the first time ever the NMRA & NMCA will produce a West Coast event that showcases what our series have to offer. This event will feature West Coast race cars and classes that will follow 2011 PSCA class rules.

Because of recent noise restrictions imposed upon the track, NMRA/NMCA will not be able to run Pro Street and Outlaw 10.5, classes previously planned, however the rest of the classes can all run as long as all competitors have mufflers on their vehicles for the entirety of the event. Every car that enters into the event will be required to have mufflers or collector mufflers (inserts are not acceptable) to pass NMRA/NMCA tech. This is a zero-tolerance policy that will be in effect. If your car exceeds the max decibel reading (under 105DB at 50ft) you will be shutoff and not be able to compete.

The NMCA & NMRA will converge for the Inaugural JE Pistons NMRA/NMCA West Coast Shootout, presented by Lucas Oil, at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. The NMCA Flowmaster Muscle Car Nationals and the NMRA Keystone Automotive Ford Nationals will showcase all the cars and all the stars from the West Coast street legal drag racing scene and show these racers what NMRA & NMCA have to offer! There will be two separate car shows, an autocross, a special Racers Against Street Racing True Street Challenge, a massive vendor midway, and let’s not forget the “Legendary Burnout Contest”. So don’t miss your chance to experience what will prove to be one of the biggest muscle car events of the season.

Attack the Corners at the NMRA/NMCA Autocross & Hit the Binders in the Speed-Stop-Challenge!

Why try autocross? Imagine standing on the throttle, then pushing on the brakes to maximum, and then turning the steering wheel hard to make the corner. Now think about doing this in a friendly, safe, no pressure environment. This is autocross, and yes, it is fun! In years past, attending a car show meant driving to the show, finding a nice parking place, unfolding the lawn chairs and pulling out the build book. While a static car show can still be enjoyable, getting behind the wheel and pushing your favorite project car/ truck to the limit is thrilling. Hotchkis Sport Suspension is sponsoring the autocross and everyone is welcome. Pre-registration is required your ticket will also include the Baer Brake Systems Speed-Stop-Challenge. For Autocross information call 866-942-3603. Pre-registration is requested for the Autocross & Speed-Stop-Challenge. It’s free and easy to pre-register…simply click this link: http://hotchkis.net/request/form/

Special Items & Prizes for Autocross & Speed Stop Competitors:

Second driver is free (must have 1-day or 2-day entry ticket)
Baer 10% off MAP price coupon to each competitor
Baer free brake system (front or rear) for “most entertaining stop” in the Speed-Stop Challenge
Baer $1,000 discount certificate on a complete front and rear brake system to the overall winner of the Speed-Stop-Challenge.
Raffle for $100 NMRA/NMCA shopping spree Sat & Sun
Free bottles of water for drivers (while supplies last).

4 The NMRA & NMCA are coming to the Auto Club Speedway! July 8 10

The Baer Brake Systems Speed-Stop-Challenge combines the adrenaline rush of a drag racing style launch and then tests your depth perception and threshold braking skill 600-feet later when you must stop completely within a 20-foot wide and 40-foot deep “stop box”. The shortest elapsed time from dead stop to the car at rest completely within the stop box is the winner. Accelerate from the start as far as your judgment tells you that you can go and still bring your car to a safe and straight stop within the stop box. Easy! Right? Line `em up and give it a try! Pre-registration is required for the Baer Speed-Stop-Challenge and your ticket will also include the Hotchkis Sport Suspension autocross. For Speed Stop Challenge information call (602) 233-1411.

Race weekend summary – NMRA Ford Nationals- Atco, New Jersey

urist atco Race weekend summary – NMRA Ford Nationals Atco, New Jersey

John Urist

Per team Hellion

A summary of our short weekend at the NMRA Ford Nationals in Atco, New Jersey.

Going into Atco, we decided not to change the car much as it had ran a 7.17 at 200mph in Atlanta. We felt that with the way the car was running, we had a great chance at winning this race without any major changes. Because of impending rain heading our way, we had two rounds of qualifying to finish on Friday night and possibly one round of eliminations. In our second round of qualifying, we ran our personal best of 7.12, at 203mph. This is a new class record for mph and we are striving to achieve the ET class record. After this stellar pass, the impending rain rolled into Atco and unfortunately the rest of the weekend did not look much better.
We came to the track early Saturday morning in hopes of there being a break in the rain but to our disappointment, it did not happen. Early Sunday morning they called the race and it is to be finished in Joliet, IL, our 4th race of the season.
