Where They Raced

Friday, March 25th, 2011

About a week ago, I had the chance to be part of something special. I was invited down to the CBS Television lot to film an interview segment for a show called “Where They Raced” (http://www.wheretheyraced.com).

“Where They Raced” is a documentary film currently in production about the history of auto racing here in Los Angeles. What made this interview special was that it was being conducted at the same location my father and his team used to race, The old Gilmore Stadium. Well, Gilmore Stadium is no longer there. CBS, The Grove shopping center, and the old LA Farmers Market currently occupy the location. And even today, like back then, it’s still a hub of Los Angeles Activity.

It was a pleasure for us to take my Fathers restored #27 Kurtis-Kraft V8-60 Midget back to the Gilmore location. You see, back in those days, Gilmore was a Blue AAA Circuit Offenhauser only track. V8-60s had never won against the more powerful “Offys.” My Father wanted to beat those cars so he worked hard at modifying his V8-60 powered car. He reworked the engine and started playing around with fuel mixtures and additives such as Nitromethane. It all paid off and history was made. My fathers #27 was the first and only V8-60 car to beat the “Offys” at Gilmore as well as one of the first vehicles in the country to use nitro as a fuel. It really was an exciting time.

It was also a pleasure to meet up with Hank Hilty, grandson of the late Earl Gilmore whose family also had such an impact in early racing here in California. Here are a few pictures from the day. Look forward to a future post when the documentary is finished!

Please take the time to view some of the pictures below…

Take Care,
Vic~

Edelbrock Unleashes 50-State Street-Legal E-Force Supercharger System for 2011 5.0L Ford Mustang GT

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

TORRANCE, CA (March 17, 2011) – Edelbrock is excited to announce the release of their E-Force Supercharger system for 2011 Ford Mustangs equipped with a 5.0L 4V engine (#1588). Based in large part on the existing supercharger for 2005-10 Mustangs, this new kit will allow the 2011 Mustang to produce 559 horsepower and 503 ft-lbs. of torque with low boost. This design is engineered and manufactured by Edelbrock and features an Eaton® Twin Vortices Series (TVS®) 2300 GEN VI rotor assembly – the same internals used on the new Corvette ZR-1.

The supercharger assembly is integrated into Edelbrock’s unique intake manifold for a truly seamless design with minimal components. The intake features 15″ long runners for maximum low-end torque and an integrated bypass valve that helps reduce parasitic loss under light throttle, which improves mileage potential. Keeping the air cool is a 110 square inch, high capacity, air to water intercooler – the largest of its kind available on the market today – and a full face low temp heat exchanger. It has been designed to meet 50-State emissions and work with all OEM emissions equipment (E.O. Number D-215-77).

This complete Edelbrock E-Force supercharger kit includes everything you need to bolt it on under the hood of a 2011 Mustang GT, including supercharger/manifold assembly, fuel injectors, air-to-water intercooler and a handheld flash programmer to properly tune the factory ECU for the added power. Edelbrock offers 3 levels of optional powertrain warranty terms – including 3-Year/36,000 mile and 5-Year/60,000 mile, offering up to $19,000 of coverage, for peace of mind when installing on a brand new car.

Edelbrock also offers a competition version of this system (#1589). Edelbrock E-Force Competition Supercharger systems are based off of our popular street systems, but are pared down to the essential components that a racer needs, without the extras that experienced racers prefer to customize for their own competitive advantage. They include the essential supercharger package components with selectable options based on your purpose built needs – from our Competition Air Intake Systems to fuel injectors, pulleys and much more.

    Features Include:

  • 2300cc (140 cubic inch) Eaton® TVS® GEN VI rotor assembly
  • Unique intake manifold design with 15″ long runners for increased low-end torque
  • 100,000 mile self-contained oiling system
  • Installs under the stock hood with no modifications
  • Complete package includes supercharger/intake assembly, air-box lid, fuel injectors, air-to-water intercooler, and flash tuner with proper calibration
  • Optional 5 Year/60,000 mile warranty
  • Made in USA for absolute quality and performance
  • 50 State Emissions Legal (E.O. Number D-215-77)
  • Retail Price: $6,495.87

The local community came out to enjoy the show

As the presenter and sponsor of the Edelbrock Rev’ved Up 4 Kidz charity car show, which benefits the Center for Learning Unlimited, of course we’re going to tell you how good the show actually was – and it’s true, it was a GREAT day.  But when car enthusiasts, automotive industry vendors, local high school students of the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow engine challenge, a host of food vendors and two great bands –  Jupiter Ignition and Mike Pinera of the Classic Rock All Stars –  get together to raise money for the children of the Center for Learning Unlimted, it doesn’t take long for the buzz to spread throughout the media and enthusiast forums.  So instead of us telling you about the event, we’re going to rely on the third party media and participants to share their thoughts.

StreetLegal TV – “…the 5th annual Rev’ved Up 4 Kidz was an absolute blast to attend…”

Popular Hot Rodding Magazine – “…this is an annual event that we’ve taken a liking to because Edelbrock has so many things going on and it’s for a really good cause…”

Corvette Forum Post – “…Edelbrocks always put on a first class show, with Vic’s Museum open and packed full of beautiful cars, Hot Rod TV broadcasting live, Vic was signing autographs…”

Digital Throttle – “…The show and dinner Saturday night, raised money for the Center for Learning Unlimited a great local center for children with special learning needs…”
